Re-re-remember to re-re-recylce!

I was very impressed with how much our preschoolers already know about recycling! When I asked our class what "recycling" meant, someone said "using something again." Awesome! During circle time, we read the book Recycle Every Day, by Nancy Wallace, which shows a lot of different ways Minna's family recycles on a daily basis. Then we put our creative minds to work during art, when we created masterpieces from recycled materials!

We talked about recycling projects we could do here in our classroom. We came up with collecting aluminum pop cans, and then using the money we get for returning them to buy something for our classroom. So far we have collected ten cans; if you have any pop cans building up in your house/garage and want to bring them here, that would be great!

Sticks marking the places of our buried egg carton and buried fruit peels!
In science, we learned two new words: degradable and non-degradable. As a group, we hypothesized whether fruit peels would be degradable, or whether a styrofoam egg carton would be degradable. our hypothesis was split right down the middle, with 5 thinking the fruit peels would break down when buried in the soil, and 5 thinking the egg carton would break down. We buried both items and will check later in the week to see which hypothesis turned out to be true!
