![]() A. spelled these words all on his own! Today we made Hulk figures with paper and recycled cardboard tubes. We also read Super Guinea Pig to the Rescue by Udo Weigett. Earlier this week we started reading Super Diaper Baby by Dav Pikely and we finished it (our first chapter book) today! The kids really enjoyed the silliness of the author's writing. If you're not familiar with Dav Pikely, he also wrote the Captain Underpants series. This morning in literacy centers we noticed quite a few preschoolers sounding out letters and forming words all on their own! We've been practicing stretching out words to hear all of their sounds.

![]() We have been collecting cans in our room since our recycling unit. I'm happy to report that so far we were able to save up enough money to buy new literacy journals for all of the students! We can't wait to start using them in our literacy centers! We will continue collecting cans through June. We're hoping to save up to purchase educational games. Today we started our Superhero Week. We read Atomic Ace: He's Just My Dad by Jeff Weigel and talked about how there can be real life superheroes. Some of the real superheroes in our lives: mom, dad, doctors, police, firefighters, and paramedics. The students discussed how real life superheroes do things to help and sometimes even save other people. For art we went outside to do some Spiderman "web" painting. We used cooked spaghetti noodles dipped in tempera paint to throw at our evil blank paper villain. In another station, students played with Ivan Ooze's ooze in a sensory tub. We used recycled crepe paper, water, and ivory soap to make our ooze. This week's centers This weeks literacy centers are:
ABC sort- students match lowercase letters to uppercase letters in a sorting tray. Alphabet Soup- draw out letter tiles and put in ABC order. Literacy Journal Entries-This will very day to day. We started with self-portraits. Superhero Story-Each day we will add a new part to our stories. As the weather gets warmer we will be spending more time outside. Please make sure that your child is dressed and ready to play in the sunshine with us! One way to come prepared is to apply sunscreen on your child in the morning. We will reapply in the afternoon and put on bug spray each time we go out.
Our preschoolers are allowed to bring in water bottles as long as it is clearly labeled with their name AND it goes home each day to get washed. Carey and Nicole really like these water bottles at Toys 'R Us. It's time for Superhero Week!! Please check out the plans for special notes about dress up and show & tell days! Click here to view
This week's math centers are a hit! Students have been practicing their phone numbers, using legos to build, bug sorting, and ant counting! We've been very busy mathematicians! Today we learned about spiders! We read Miss Spider's Tea Party and discussed the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Then we laced yarn through paper plates to weave our own spiderwebs and we used our hand prints to make spooky spiders. We had a great day!
This week we will be learning about Insects. Click Here for a sneak Peak of the lesson plans.
Today we enjoyed the great outdoors! The day started with our circle time outdoors, where we read Jonathan London's Froggy goes to Camp. Then we pitched our very own tent, and spent the rest of the morning singing campfire songs, playing with sticks, and going on hikes! After outdoor lunch, we even had nap outside! To make our craft, miniature campfires, we had to go on a hike and find all the supplies in nature! We collected sticks and rocks to use in our tiny fire pits.
