The essence of the Kozy Heart program is family. We have worked hard to create a healthy, 'family focused' environment where our children learn social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills.
Children are supervised at all times. Staff have weekly lessons planned for their respective groups, and most activities are child and staff-oriented.
However, we still honor independent play time, for we believe a balance of free play is fundamental in the development of a child's creativity and imagination. As children explore their own world on their own terms, they are allowed the opportunity to develop self-awareness and their own individual imagination.
Fundamental Skills
Our program focuses on hands-on activities using common household items as well as blocks. These materials are used in arts and crafts and in teaching cognitive problem-solving skills. Basic math and science concepts are also taught in a similar style.
Literacy is heavily promoted at Kozy Heart. The sooner and more words children are exposed to, the better. Books and stationary are always within the children's reach. Books are rotated weekly in accordance to a season, holiday, and curriculum themes. Our staff read to the children several times a day, while children also partake in independent reading during free time.
Kindermusic is offered once a week for an additional fee. Denise Owens, our music educator, leads this program which focuses on musical, social, and listening skills.
Given appropriate weather, outdoor activity is our primary focus. Our children are exposed to as much direct contact to nature as possible, for we believe this to be very important in the development in our children. Creative outdoor projects using natural materials, visits from the Ice Cream Truck in our backyard once a week, outdoor sports curriculum such as 'Soccer Shots' all add up to an old fashioned and old world feel that is becoming long gone in today's world.
Parental Involvement
Since we are a family-style program, our parents will play a large role in running and supporting our program. We have an open door policy because we want parents to spend time with us and their children. The more our staff can learn about parents' experience with their child, the better we can understand and learn about their young one as an individual.
