Today in preschool we explored the colorful festival of MardiGras! We started by reading Mardi Gras, by Ann Heinrichs, and discussing why we celebrate Mardi Gras. After a very informational National Geographic video clip, we did different activities that led up to our own Mardi Gras Parade! First we created our own Mardi Gras bead necklaces using the three Mardi Gras colors- purple, green and gold. Then we decorated masquerade masks using festive feathers. After nap, it was time for a delicious carnival snack- King Cake! Miss Nicole was the lucky person to find the little baby doll in her piece. Looks like she will have to buy the next king cake! After some counting practice using the Mardi Gras Counting Book, it was time for the big parade! After putting on our beads, costumes and masks, we paraded around the room showering Mardi Gras beads on the masses. The Krewe of Kozy Heart had a very successful parade to end the 2012 Mardi Gras season.

Jake LOVES his Mardi Gras mask. When we get home from school, it is the first thing he puts on and then it usually stays on until bathtime. :)
