Let it Rain!

After 3 days of blazing heat and sun, we finally have a bit of rain! After reading the book Hands off, Harry! by Rosemary Wells, we talked about how we can use our hands productively at school. Hands are for Shaking, holding, and helping (and for high-fiving!). Hands are also for creating, so we used them to make some awesome pirate ships! 

After finishing our pirate ships, we did another favorite rainy day activity- free paint with watercolors. We also completed our literacy stations. One of the new stations we have this week is Swat-a-letter. Students draw an uppercase letter from a jar and must be the first to find the matching lower-case letter and swat it with their fly swatters (don't worry, the swatters were thoroughly washed before use!!). We have really been noticing a difference in how everyone is getting along since we started this unit! Much less tattling and a lot more cooperative play :)
