Look up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's... ALIENS!!! Today we took a break from scientific fact for a little bit of science fiction! Starting off the day with the short story Buzz Beaker and the Outer Space Trip, by Carl Meister, we used our imaginations to create our own aliens and Alien worlds. Using clay and googly eyes, we sculpted our own galactic aliens. Later in the week, we will make them come alive even more with a bit of paint.
We also discussed what we thought an alien world might look like, and used watercolor paints to depict what we saw in our minds.
In the afternoon, we had visitors from outer space!! Aliens beamed down special notes for each of our friends to the picnic table in the backyard. We received these messages, but had to figure out how we could read them... a little bit of water color paint helped us uncover the secret messages.
For math, we counted aliens and matched them to their shadow.
Pretending to be aliens was another fun thing we did today. We danced to "alien music" and practiced our space walk! Since it was so nice outside, we also practiced our moonwalk on a walk around the neighborhood. It was an extraterrestrial day!
