To start off our week learning about colors, Monday was a rainbow-themed day. After Kindermusic we read Rainbow Crow, by Nancy Van Laan, and brainstormed all the colors we could think of! For our morning craft, we experimented with these colors using edible paint (milk and food coloring) to make our own rainbow marshmallows!

Next week our theme will be colors. It would be great if the kids could wear something to school that is the color of the day so we can be extra festive!
Click for COLOR Lesson Plans Wednesday we used Eric Carle's beloved book The Very Hungry Caterpillar to practice counting and adding skills. First we counted what fruit the caterpillar ate each day while reading the story, then we counted out blocks (unifix cubes) to represent the fruits. Students ended up with one "apple" (red block), two "pears" (green blocks), three "pears" (purple blocks), etc. Then we did some addition to figure out how many fruits the caterpillar ate in total. Everyone did a really great job! Afterwards, we enjoyed some freetime with the unifix cubes, and we heard a lot of great counting going on!
We wrapped up our unit on frogs today and then learned a little more about eggs. We read the story A Frog in the Bog by Jean Rankin and practiced recalling the beginning, middle and end of a story- students were super story experts yet again! During centers, students explored hopping like a frog, eating like a frog, and feeling what it would be like living in a frog habitat. We also had a math center where students focused specifically on writing/identifying numbers 1-10. During the afternoon we read In the Nest and talked more about what kinds of animals come from eggs. Then we practiced being scientists and made some hypotheses during inter-eggs-ting eggs-periments. Click here to learn how to do the experiments at home!
Here are our tentative lesson plans for this week! Our theme is life cycles. Remember, although we do try to plan lessons a little bit ahead, we are very flexible depending on the students' responses and interests. We want to make the most of the attention span we have! :)
Today we learned about frogs. After kindermusic, we read the first two chapters of Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel. The students were super readers and were able to identify the beginning, middle and end of the first chapter! Post-lunch, we started our awesome frog hat craft, then enjoyed the rest of the beautiful afternoon outside. The Easter Bunny visited Kozy Heart today! Our preschoolers and toddlers made some eggstra special "Easter baskets" and were treated to a fun egg hunt in the backyard. In the morning during our literacy lesson, we reviewed the three parts of a story: beginning, middle and end. We then read Max's Chocolate Chicken by Rosemary Wells, and drew pictures to show the parts of the story. During stations, we did some fun Easter crafts- Easter cards with stamps, textured painting easter pictures, and egg carton bunnies. The egg carton bunnies were a big hit! We hope you all have an eggciting three day weekend, and a nice holiday if you celebrate Easter. See you on Monday!
Another eggceptionally good day in preschool! Our theme today was ducklings and we read two duck books, Duck for President and Duck and Goose. We learned all about the 3 main parts in every story--beginning, middle, and end. Help your preschooler figure out these parts in the stories that you read at home. One of our stations included using the Puppet pals application to create our very own stories.
We also practiced putting together egg puzzles and we even used our feet to make duckling pictures!! For science Miss Carey helped us hypothesize what happened to peeps when they are put in the microwave and then we got to test it out! We liked the taste testing part the best!! The day ended with playing outside in the warm sunshine. What a great day!
Check out the flyer attached above for important info about our upcoming BBQ!
The rain couldn't keep our cel-egg-bration down today in the Kozy Heart preschool room! We started the morning with our circle time and read The Easter Egg, by Jan Brett. The story is about Hoppi the rabbit, who helps a bird in need by keeping her egg warm until it hatches. We then made our own hatching easter eggs, and even practiced keeping them warm! Today we also opened the Kozy Heart beauty salon! It was time to give our friends the Grassheads a nice trim. Check out the students' handiwork... there were some very edgy 'dos! In the afternoon we completed our Easter-themed math and science centers!
If you would like to try this experiment at home, you can download the worksheet we used by clicking HERE.
Today we read Happy Easter Little Critter by Mercer Mayer. We also used water color paints to decorate Easter eggs and practiced our counting skills and number recognition with the Easter bunny. For science we observed what happened when we dropped food coloring on napkins followed by spraying it with water...tie dye eggs! Overall it was an eggcellent day!
